Every year since 1977 International Museum Day is organised worldwide on May 18. This day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. Each year’s International Museum Day a new theme is proposed by ICOM’s network which aims to promote museum issues within society. In 2016, the event celebrates the theme Museums and Cultural Landscapes. The theme makes museums responsible for their landscapes, asking them to contribute knowledge and expertise and take an active role in their management and upkeep.
