THE ANNUAL SITULAE FESTIVAL WILL BE HELD ON 3rd OF JUNE 2023, FROM 5:00 PM TO 12:00 PM, AT GLAVNI TRG, NOVO MESTO.
The programme starts at 5 p.m. at Glavni trg, with the opening of the handicraft market, workshops and demonstrations of various crafts and activities. At 8 p.m., there will be a central performance of life at the Prince’s Court. Guided tour of archaeological exhibition will take place at Dolenjska museum at 10 p.m. Concert by the band Noreia at Glavni trg will be from 9.30 p.m. to 12.00 p.m.
Novo mesto was one of the most important centres of Central Europe in the earlier Iron Age (8th-4th centuries BC). As many as 9 bronze, figuratively decorated vessels – situlae – have been found in two burial mounds, which rank among the top of European prehistoric art.
This is why Novo mesto is the TOWN OF SITULAE.
